Artist's Comments

There are at least four more or less tenable interpretations to be made of this piece.

The one I really wanted to communicate, however, is the realization that visual character design is empty without a vital, solid personality animating the shell of fashion and features.

But really, if you can get another interpretation from it, that is also cool. Just realize that there is one particular one guiding the piece.

(Incidentally, you know, that's, uh, Saul. Well, one of them is. Or are both of them?

YOU GET THE IDEA. Saul is involved)

Ooooh, this turned out nice. I like the heartbeat in the background, and the shading on his chest and legs. I ALSO APOLOGIZE for missing thine advicething about it, I've been a tad stressed the last few days. But I think this turned out genius. A+

This is lovely...when I first saw it I thought it was going to be someone hiding within a cool, "together" facade, and being stripped of it, are naked, scared and helpless.

But that's just me XD

Thank you! The heartbeat was a last-minute touch which I'm glad I went with.

No problem at all--after a while I was kinda swamped with responses, so!

(thanks for the favourite, too)

That's a good interpretation, too! I like that one a lot--holds particularly true for Saul as a character because he's all shine and charm and not much of what in the old days they called "moral fiber."

I was kinda hoping people would come up with their own interpretations along with mine--I realized early on that this was a piece with many ambiguities, and while I want to be clear about my intended meaning I think it's neat to see additional ideas.

I like your interpretation too. Yours is more like a message to writers and artists about how to create real characters. Mine is more of a life thing :P

That heartbeat is quite ingenious, as well as compositionally effective. Ties the whole thing together into more than a marker sketch.

Plus the skin-shading is lurvelynice.

It immediately reminded me of V for Vendetta. Maybe just because Guy Fawkes day is coming up and it's been on my mind a lot. But. The whole, "The face underneath this mask isn't me, any more than the bones and muscles beneath that" or whatnot . . . we have a persona that we want people to see, and we put it on (literally, in this case) . . .

But obviously the other interpretations make perfect sense, too. ^__^

Very awesome piece!

Looks like a bit of Jungian philosophy to me. You know, the whole Persona and Anima thing? Very nicely done.
